I hear where you are coming from Narayan. I've been resorting to the google toolbar spell checker for ages.

I'll have a look. If it's going to be added, it'll have to be during the next major upgrade of the site. Which will probably be in December.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Firefox 2 does spell check while you type...

I use konqueror which is kind of a linux child of mozilla and it spellchecks as I type (words misspelt are in red). I assume other mozilla based browsers work similarly. It's kind of annoying really. When I want to type a quick response and not worry about spelling, the auto spellchecker still forces me to make corrections because the red text just SCREAMS at me... like a school teacher watching your every move.

A spell checker anywhere is always good, i look at it like this, if a word is spelt wrong in a post you can usualy work the word out with no problems. There will always be words that i cant spell when i am typing so i type it the way it sounds.

I am the world's worst speller and what is worse it does not worry me. The game firstly is communication and although getting it right is important if the message is not corruptted by mis speld words the job is done. If I am feeling self conscieious I type up in word or the like check it cut it and post it..but as you will notice that is the exceptio0n to the rule in my kase.

You can also turn on spell checking in Firefox.
Select Edit -> Preferences and enable 'Check my spelling as I type'

There is an English(Australian) dictionary extension that you can install.
Select Tools -> Add-ons and click the Get Extensions field. This will bring up the Firefox extensions web site where you can search for the add-on of your choice.

[This works for Firefox 2.0 under Linux but I'm pretty sure the same applies regardless of OS used)

I dont think it is so much that we dont know how to spell some words, it's more likely to be a miss hit with the typing fingers, and then not re-reading the post berore sending.

Hi All,

I have no problem with spell checkers,
Although I dont use them,No doubt I do get it wrong sometimes,

OK,maybe often.

My main concern with Spellcheckers,is What language are they based, for eg,
If they are American based, the word "colour",will be spelt "color",etc, etc.

NOT,the Australian Spelling of the word

But,What would I know,I left school at 15.

Regards.
John
