NGC 247 - LRGBHa

I see that NGC 247 is getting some attention at the moment with the recent post of David's excellent close up of this galaxy. Mine is a wider field at 1.5 degrees taken with my Tak TSA120 and QSI683 CCD camera. I went a bit crazy with the integration time partly because I could with excellent clear weather and it does make noise management so much easier when processing.

The wide field makes for a good cruise around to hunt out the myriad of background galaxies. Have a look at revision E in the Astrobin post for an annotated version.

Acquisition details in Astrobin post.

Clear skies,
Rodney

Stunning Rodney! That’s a real quality image. Colour is spot on, and the detail you’ve extracted is great. I love the addition of the Ha- in targets like this it adds so much. Amazing effort accumulating all that data too!! It’s really paid off

Rodney,
Excellent image , especially the framing , it’s nice how you’ve placed the main galaxy off to the side to expose many hidden faint stuff in the main interstellar background.
Nice work and well done for effort alone , plenty of nights and good data does wonders to a Galaxy image.
Cheers
Martin

Thanks Martin. With a 1.5 degree field of view I do need to get creative with the framing of galaxy images. To that end, I don't usually bother with galaxies unless they are at least 10 arc minutes or greater. This one works nicely at 21' across the long axis.

Yeah, what Dave and Martone said

Great to have such a wide view of the area, you have a few cropping options, if you want to create a compositionally more appealing image, for what ever reason

Mike

Thanks Mike, ‘tis true that we can exercise our creativity and explore more options

I think that field of view works quite well and gives a good view of the back ground galaxies. The image is well processed.
