NGC6188 Mosaic

Posting my latest image being a four panel mosaic surrounding the emission nebula NGC6188 captured with my Tak TSA120 and QSI683 CCD. I've oriented the image slightly differently to most presentations as I like the large expanse of nebulosity that looks like a giant pair of wings extended through space. This composition is with RGB, Ha and Luminance filters with most of the data captured in April/May this year. Some of the Ha data was captured last year in 2021.

I think that this area does actually present better in narrowband but conditions being what they are I was lucky to be able to capture sufficient data for this image. I will definitely be re-visiting this next year to capture OIII/SII data for narrowband mosaic. Should be fun to be sure.

This now means that I have totally run out of new data to process so it will be sometime before I can present a new image. I may have to resort to trawling through the archives and see what I have can dust off and bring to life again .

In the meantime, here is a link to the post on Astrobin.
Full acquisition details can be found on the Astrobin site.

Comments welcome.

Clear skies,
Rodney

Great stuff Rodney! That data's come together beautifully, and a tip of the cap for the integration time! Longest I've seen on this target, and thank you for not downsampling on the astrobin image this bad boy really stands up to a closer inspection! Stars look really great close up!

Well done!

Thanks Adam, the integration time does look kinda crazy for these mosaic projects considering that it is effectively four separate imaging projects.

That's an excellent take on 'The Dragons' - makes a much more interesting image.

Although I confess it did make me think of Count Duckula, for some reason...

Count Duckula indeed . I admit though that the resemblance is quite apt

Excellent image Rodney, I hope everyone makes the effort to view the full res version on AstroBin, its a lovely surf and seeing it in a more natural colour palette than that which has made this area so famous (thanks to my wife ) is always a refreshing change, nice job mate

Thanks for the kind words Mike. There is a lot to explore in this region of the sky and I was pleased with where this project landed.

That's superb Rodney - the high-res is delicious.

Sometimes HaRGB images of this region can seem a bit bland with all the multi-colour versions around but not this one!

That's an interesting composition Rodney. The moody look to the image really has an impact.

Amazing work! Very deep. The HaRGB blend looks perfect. How long did it take you to collect the data?

Thanks Ecki and Paul.

@Ecki - Including all four panels for the mosaic the total integration time for the project was over 76 hours (not including the data that finished up in the bin !).
Some of the Ha data were captured last year and the remaining data capture in April/May this year. Give the current weather conditions I am lucky that I was able to get enough clear sky.
