Looks like we have to wait until winter for the good regular clear skies to return on the east coast Last winter up here was fabulous, so I guess another one, after such regular crud, will still be welcomed....aaand will hopefully coincide with the opening of the new observatory ..can only hope

It’s been a bloody long time. I have more or less written off everything between October and May in recent years. Having invested so much financially and ( dare I say) emotionally in this pursuit, I sometimes wonder whether I have overdone both. But then, one good night undoes all that.

I’ve just invested another $12K on a new mount and scope for my Obs , historically La Niña doesn’t happen every year. The investment or should I say expenditure is a long term plan......
Late Autumn through Winter should see plenty of clear nights on the eastern and south eastern side of Australia.

So, to balance the universe the size of the water tank is proportional to the diameter of the aperture divided by the age of the scope?


Good news is three consecutive years of La Nina is basically unheard of... so we should be right with today's weather patterns...

Except for 1973-1975 and 1998-2000. So maybe not so rare.

There have been 30 La Nina's since 1900, so, to have three consecutive requires some good odds, or a change in the odds...

The two triples listed above account for 20% of recorded La Nina's since 1900.

All but two of the la Nina's occurred after 1950.
