Gum12 - Supernova remnant

Hi all,

Was setup & had missed my short 2.5hr window (my clear spot between trees) for the northern targets so went looking close to zenith and stumbled onto Gum 12, part of a well known supernova remnant.. which is a new target for me.

6 hours of exposure.. again I could do with more data but thought id post what i have for now.. I'll also be adding to this the next clear night. Enjoyed processing it, seeing the Ha & Oiii channels having no similarity at all between them, combining & kaboom! Can almost see the explosive power from it's origins.

If anyone wants to have a crack, i had to use coordinates as the asiair doesn't know the Gum Catalog.

Thanks Kuz, i did see Andys images with the SV70T and was impressed. Post a link to yours if you feel like it. Actually thought a SNR might not be as fun to process as it was.. there you go, will be doing more of these.

Thanks Mike, totally agree with you. Must be quite a few of these in the southern hemisphere.. but I haven't checked yet.

Killer image. Absolutely love this nebula, and this is a beautiful rendition. Any more details to share about sub duration and for each filter? Would love to do a widefield of this part of the sky.

Much appreciated Adam. Yes I've got details for days.. ended up being 30x6min Ha 5nm, 30x6min Oiii 3nm, only about 6x60s RGB (each) for stars. Agree a widefield or if you've got the patience a mosaic could be fun.

Love the colours and details. The orangey reds work great with some of the lighter blues - you get that complimentary colour vibrancy.

Thanks Matthew, im gad you like it! Hoping not too vibrant, i never know if my embedded icc colour profile makes it onto everyone's screens, or if it reverts to sRGB or something, really over doing the saturation. I guess it's working.. i do wonder though.

Thanks Ben! I noticed that too and want to really bring that rainbow colour out in those overlapping tendrils soon. Could spend months, if not a year, shooting this supernova remnant alone.

I always love a good Vela image and this one is exceptional with its widefield and lovely saturated colours.

I agree, you have captured the explosive nature of the super nova remnant the power of that original exposion is well expressed.

It is an very interesting area with RCW 32, RCW 33, RCW 34 all in Vela.

I added 2 more nights of data (it ended up being 15 hours in total).

10 hours Ha, 5 hours Oiii, some RGB stars, and Im finally happy with it.
