NGC 5054 and galaxy group around NGC5044

Finally able to get some pictures at Wiruna--not as much exposure time as I would have liked, but grateful for what I got.

Image is here

https://www.astrobin.com/06krol/

Higher res here

https://www.astrobin.com/full/06krol/0/

Tech details:

Plane Wave 12.5"CDK telescope with FLI Proline 16803 camera on AP900 mount.

Processed in PixInsight.

FOV 49' x 49'

It seems that NGC 5054 is not part of the galaxy group around the large elliptical galaxy NGC 5044. However, at some time in the past, NGC 5054 passed right through the group.

Nice picture Geoff,
it looked a little pastel to me.
I put it into Photoshop and bumped up
the saturation by 50% and it then looked more colourful.

cheers

I like this Geoff, a well processed and natural looking galaxy group shot, enjoyed panning around it looking at all the goodies, well done

Thanks Allan. I'm not really a fan of lots of saturation in galaxies, although with nebulae I tend to push it a bit more.

Thanks Mike. No problems with the decon? This was also one of the very, very few images that I gave a very little sharpening tweak to.

No, Geoff, you can rest easy that, while the Colindeconometer might be calibrated slightly differently, the Sidondeconometer hardly quivered

A pleasing, natural looking image Geoff! A great field to wander around in too. Nicely done!

That's spectacular Geoff. Crisp and sharp and deep. And a wonderful patch of sky too. Well done.

Thanks Marcus and M&T. One thing that surprises me is that ngc 5054 is so seldom imaged. It is photogenic, bright and accessibly sized at around 5’

Nice one Geoff! It's a cool field and good to see that you included 5054.

When I imaged this region it was 5054 that attracted me to it but I ended up not imaging 5054 because I didn't like the composition options with my FOV.
