Haha, very remote. I was reading on the Grey Nomad website that the Census people were saying they are going to visit free camps on the night - yeah where did they find people willing to do that, for the hundreds of sites across the counyry, they will be well received. Caravan park operators are expected to hand out forms as well.

This is an interesting read

I guess my name for the census might have to be The Resident.

Makes you wonder who is really pulling the strings?

From the article https://independentaustralia.net/lif...16-census,9279

"It did not mention that for the 2006 Census the same proposal was dropped after a damning privacy impact report by skilled privacy expert, Mr Nigel Waters. And it did not mention a similar proposal for the 2011 Census, which the then Statistician didn’t allow to proceed because of privacy concerns and the possibility of significant public backlash.

Perhaps the reason why these last two experiences weren’t mentioned was that the ABS would have very great difficulty in answering a question like:
'If this matching proposal was rejected in 2006 and again in 2011 for privacy and respondent reaction reasons, what has changed in 2016 that makes such a proposal acceptable?'
Not surprisingly, this topic has gone viral on the Internet and one thing is certain, informed Australians are not amused."

The fact the earlier determinations have been ignored is of grave concern.
This tells us they don't give a dam and are prepared to do what they wish....that is the concern.
What are the shock jocks saying?
Has the prime minister made comment?
Is there no lawyer ready to approach the High Court?
What will the coming week hold?

Trying to get on to someone to get a form is a joke.

There is a good article on Gizmodo today on "What you need to know if your planning to avoid the Census".

So if I am away on my annual camel trek in the Simpson desert that night what are my responsibilities ?

People who are overseas are definitely not required to complete a Census.

I have called and can't get a form.
Most calls get a message to effect we are busy call back later.
On the one occasion I got to enter my number that also ended in a we are busy call back later message.
Not good enough.
Who is the minister responsible?

If you called them for paper (and can prove it), and if you could not get through, and if your computer is off line on the census day... you did your part, right?

No one is responsible for anything. Thats how politics works.
That said, a person on talkback this morning mentioned thay had tried about a dozen times and couldnt get through.
They then tried the second number ( in the fine print at the bottom )
and got a human within a minute????
If your "To the resident" letter is the same as mine
they tell you to ring 1300 820275 to request a paper form, and this is totally busy.
The number at the bottom is for "more information" and is 1300 214531.
You could always ring that and ask them how to get through to the other number ;-)

Andrew

Yes I have. I will continue to try.
I am thinking of putting a protest sign on my walking frame and protesting at the shopping center.
The arrogance should be protested against.
These fools insulate themselves behind unanswered phones and expect it will all work because they and their yes men tell each other they know best.
Who is the minister?
Help me draft a sign.
It must be short and to the point.

Census will cost you money.
Protest to minister on (phone number)

Any ideas?
Alex

The other number
1300214531
Has similar we are busy call back later message.

Can't even get a machine that invites you to select a number but does not give your problem a number.
