Synscan Handset Cable Extension for EQ6/NEQ6

As some will already know, you can extend the cable length of your Synscan handset by using a regular Ethernet cable (Cat 5e or Cat 6 - straight-through wired). If you have an EQ6/NEQ6 Pro, unlike the HEQ5 Pro or new AZ-EQ6-GT, you will also need a suitable connector or adapter: a DB9 connector for one cable end or an RJ-45 coupler, the latter being easier. (The HEQ5 Pro and AZ-EQ6-GT have an RJ-45 socket on the mount and so don't need any adapter).

I kept the standard DB9-to-RJ45 coiled cable and used an RJ-45 coupler to join to the Ethernet extension cable. Not all RJ-45 couplers are made equal, however. I've now been through three of them. The first two failed - loose connections, loose fitting, broke apart, etc. But the third one worked well!

So, rather than you go through the same issues, I thought I'd share which RJ-45 coupler was the best. It's this one - rock solid - hasn't missed a bit (or beat!) - fairly affordable, too:

RJ45 Cat5e F-F Coupler

The cable I used was a standard Cat 6 cable, 5m length, which cost around $6 from MSY.

(I'm not endorsing this product, but I can say that I have never had any issues with any of the cheap accessories I bought from dx.com.)

Cheers
Steffen.

Actually, one of my failed ones came from dx.com! It's kinda my whole point that the "cheap" ones I used failed.
