Attaching Filters

I have a Newbie question about filters. I want to get a moon filter and was just wondering where/how I attach it. From what I have read it screws onto the EP. Where? None of my EP's have a thread where I would think of putting a filter. Do I need a special EP with a thread? Or does it screw into the focuser somehow?

P.S. From memory my local shop has a gso moon filter for $25. Are these ok?

it would screw into the base/bottom of the eyepiece... you will notice the thread on the inside of the eyepiece barrel

Normally all the newer eyepieces both 1/1/4" and 2" have an internally threaded barrel.
If you feel just inside the front edge of the eyepiece you should notice a fine thread or roughness this is where the filters fit.

I can feel the thread in the bottom/base of the eyepiece but nothing in the front. I thought the filters went on the front of the EP's somehow.

Yes they do. They thread into the inside of the barrel but are about the same external diameter as the eyepiece so they sit infront of the eyepiece.

In that case, mine do not have the thread. The main EP I want to use it on is my Vixen LV. This has a 2cm Rubber fold-down eye relief and no thread anywhere.

you are looking at the wrong end of your EP... the thread is on the other end on the inside.

Filters go on the bottom of the barrel, CJ. Your EPs will take them no probs.

Thanks Ving and Janoskiss. This is why I posted the question, I always pictured them going between your eye and the eyepiece.

I like to playing games like The Sims and Theme Park. My husband says it's because I'm a bit of a control freak, but that wouldn't describe me at all.

I just got my moon filter and it screws onto the bottom of the EP like you said. Cheers.
