I bought one back in March. One piece of advice I would give you is that at the very least upgrade to the high precision worm on the RA axis, if you can afford it get the ovasion one piece worm from France. I didn't and and my mount arrived with a PE of 25 peak to peak, to say I was gutted was an understatement. The HEQPRO 5 that I just upgraded from performed better and I'd been dreaming of this mount since I got into this hobby. The place I bought it from took the mount back and upgraded the worm for me and whilst my PE is still around 12 I can guide it out pretty well at my 741mm focal length but if I increase my focal length I'll get the ovasion worm.
There is a yahoo group for tech support that is run by a Losmandy GII user, and he also has a website for the Gemini II. This is all the support there is, you don't even get a manual for the mount or the gemini but people being people there is plenty of info on the web from other users.
I've read plenty of posts saying that losmandy are impossible to get a hold of and people urging patience because making telescope mounts is not losmandys primary business, they apparently build things for the movie industry as ther primary source of income. Um, excuse me???
Then we finally get to the Gemini II, and Rene. His primary source of income also is not in the astronomy world. He is a doctor of engineering I think it is and a university lecturer. He will occasionally chime into the yahoo group whith comments like "sorry I haven't been able to spend much time on this as my work schedule as been very busy of late".
The Gemini II is pretty stable now but there are still a lot of bugs to iron out. I've all but given up on pec as it seems to erase the pec file I upload every time I restart the gemini. Also default for pec is off, so even if It doesn't erase my pec file I need to remember to enable it every session. It's little thing like this that are easily fixed but arant that bring down the user experience from what could be a stellar piece of gear.
Now, having ranted on for three paragraphs of negatives I'll leave you with a few positives.
It points really well, if my target isn't in the centre it's pretty close, every time all over the sky. And for visual as you will be doing you'll enjoy that aspect. Nothing worse than slewing to a target and looking into the eye piece and it's not there.
The mount is fully upgradable with better worms, gearboxes, and bigger motors. If you fully upgrade this mount it will be quite awesome.
Whilst support from the manufactures may not be the best, the user community have filled that gap really well so ther is plenty of help available.
The mount itself is really solid and is designed in such a way that the user can take it apart and resemble it pretty easily. So you can service the mount yourself which is great.
With the precision worm worm adjustment is really easy and quite ingenuousness. You basically push the worm up hard against the gear the turn a little screw that pushes the worm back until you hit the sweet spot then tighten the worm block in place, really easy and practically impossible to stuff up. When I think back to the mess I made of my gear meshing on my HEQPRO 5 when I messed around with it I shudder lol.
The tripod is excellent and solid as a rock. You could hit it with a wrecking ball and it still wouldn't budge.
It looks amazing, it's an impressive looking piece of kit and one you iron out a few creases it is an impressive piece of kit.
All in all I'm happy with the mount now, it has taken me a while to get to this place, but I'm here now and I'm happy. There is room to grow if in the future I want to and there are a few upgrades I'll get for sure like the ovasion worm and the RA spacer also from ovasion. The spacer gives you a few more hours of tracking past the meridian, or a few more hours before the mount grinds my camera into the tripod

.
Cheers
Sandy
