Nice one Alex,

Here is my early attempt at Astrophotography a few weeks ago...

C6 on a Nexstar 6/8 AZ mount, with Nikon D800 hanging precariously off the back. 20 secs @ ISO 6400. That's all I can manage before the star trails kick in. Single exposure, no processing.

This is the first pic I've shared, aside from that Nova hunting Eta Carinae request the other week.

Party on!

Hi Alex

It is very red but that's OK. The punters would love it!

I gave up on using JPEGS, just don't work for me.

Hi Andy

You have resolved a lot of stars, and with natural colour.

Well done

If you save your image as JPEG at less than 2Mbytes, the server will let you upload them to IIS.

Hi Alex,

Good detail but definitely on the red side.

Cheers,
Rick.

All of the hundreds of pics I have posted here over the years have
been JPEGS. I have found little or no improvement using raws, so
I have left the extra bother to the first class imagers who strive for
[and produce] the very best possible results. I came into the digital
age as an already old man, and struggle with processing.

Don't worry about the colour to much Alex, the fact that one can actually images stuff like that is enough, well done mate.

And Raymo I know how you feel, it all just whizzes past me as I try and keep pace with it all

Here's another attempt with the same rig as before. This time, 6x 15 sec exposures @ ISO4000, and stacked with DSS (1st time with any stacker last night). Educational and fun to try something new.

I really need to start saving for an EQ mount...

Really nice Alex. I tried this target a couple of months ago and didn't get close to the detail you have - the core was mostly overexposed. You've inspired me to go back and try again.

Very nice Alex!!! Lots of stars there and plenty of core detail! As others have said it is a bit red though. PLEEEEEEEASE use raw though!!! there is actually a HUGE difference - possibly as big as going to a cooled camera You can get so much more data out!

Thanks Logan.

The use of jpgs only comes from lazyness on my part.

I am usually faced with a whole lot of different images in the same file, due to me not being more careful in seperating objects into seperate files, and so as I could see the jpgs I have just gone with them.

I know make a list but again laziness.

Also I am more about going for quantity at the present as opposed to quality...but I will take your good advice and do as you suggest in the future.

I am working on so many aspects of the game and really have not really taken processing anywhere at all.

I still dont have pixinsite for example and all my images get about 10 minutes process in gimp and lately also photos shop.

I have a long list to improve upon.

Polar for example has always been ruff but now that I have a polemaster will start to take longer exposures for example.
Not that it helps in Sydney cause no view of CSP.

And so far its all unguided although next time up North I hope to get a good alignment and implement auto guiding.

Heck I still have not tweeked the eight inch and it neefs so much to make it all it can be.

I have been doing 30 seconds because the lappy was not in the picture.

Again here for the future I will control the camera from the lappy which with auto guide will enable exposures way past 30 seconds.

30 seconds suited the poor alignment plus I could set the camera to do 30 seconds with no lap top.

Time and energy are my problems.
However I am now at a stage where I can improve upon various things and become a little bit serious.

You must appreciate just standing for me is a battle with pain so even ten minute jobs have to be broken into sections of maybe 2 minute bites. Still no drugs so I can appreciate suffering☺

Thats why building that cube was such a huge effort...I had to build it downstairs and get each part up...nothing if you are fit but I would have to bring up a section and wait a couple of days to gain strength to bring up the next bit.

Add to that it seems everthing that can go wrong indeed does .. and so my progress is slow and demotivating.

However by chipping away I am making progress.

Do you know that the polemaster was the first thing I ever purchased on line☺ think of me like Rip van Winkle...in the bush for 20 years standing still in time and then all at once trying to get up to date.

It will take me two days just to load the car to go North with my gear which is really an hour job.

Not making excuses but folk may wonder why I seem to be making such slow progress so I have tried to explain.

Thanks again I really appreciate your help and that of everyone here..I dont need encouragement but let me tell you there are times when I desperately need it to keep going.

I had hoped to sail around the world soon to claim to be the oldest man to do it and having to give up on that means the challenge of astro photos is able to fill a need to do difficult things.

Fortunately thanks to all here astro photos will not be a single handed effort.

Alex
