Windows 7 update issues

I was having issues with updates basically stalling and nothing happening. Did loads of searching for help until I finally found a response that worked.
Not sure if any here are experiencing this problem, but this fix worked for me after my update process basically stopped 6 weeks ago.

I guess some may not be interested in this solution but it does work. Upgrade to Win 10. Apparently Win 10 uses a different update method. I had a Win 7 laptop with broken Win Update. Upgrading to Win 10 fixed the problem and I have not yet experienced any problems with the astro software I use.

Hi,
Nope. Not WIN7 but XP.
WIN7 is supported until 2020, so start saving your sheckles....ie; unless you want the so called "free" version 10, now.

As Rajah saiys. I believe there is a rumour that the free version may be extended past the 12 months, but who knows..

What do you mean by 'so called free'?

Is it not free? Is there anything wrong with it? Something I should know as I was about to go and do the upgrade.

I'd appreciate you pointing out any problems with it thanks

Hi,
It's free up until July 29th (1st released), or there-abouts.
After that, you may/will have to purchase it. AFAIK.

&, if you are going to upgrade to WIN10, then it's highly recommended to back up your stuff beforehand.
The upgrade has been/is known, to cause a few "glitches/errors" & may even remove things it shouldn't.
Do you use Window's Media Centre by chance? (Not Media Player.)
If so, then the upgrade will delete it.

Anyway, check out the WIN 7 & WIN 10 fora for more info.

Just an update on this updating windows 7 crud. Apparently the problem appears again after doing the May updates, you now need to download KB3153199 and do the stand alone install of this in the same way by turning off auto updating as I showed prior. My machine that previously responded, stopped and I downloaded KB3153199 installed and it now works again. What a pain in the bum
You can download it from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=52232

They are downloading win10 install files to peoples machines without asking. They recently pushed out the win10 get me software wrapped up in an internet explorer update so that got pushed out to corporate users.

It still isn't supported by any small business server software they sell but they are certainly hitting the sell button. You can still download an ISO version which will work on your win7 key so grab that for sure.

From where I'm sitting there seems to be a battle on for the 2in1 machines. Touch screens where the screen comes away from the keyboard. They seems to think they can compete with toshiba and samsung with the surface. But they signed an exclusivity deal with harvey norman hahahahaha ....

Just a FWIW...
I think I posted this before.....somewhere here.
For those that do not want to be forced into upgrading to WIN 10, then go to grc.com, (Steve Gibson's site) & get "Never 10."
You'll find it under the "Freeware > Utilities" tab.
It's been written by Steve, using MS's "authorized fix" & will remove the constant nags, pop-up & anything that has previously been secretly installed re; WIN 10.

WIN 10 will never darken my PC screen.
