Beginners - SOMEONE grab this Dob Bargain!!!! NOW
Hey Beginners, (or old hands)
I noticed that PlanetMan is selling his Saxon (same as Skywatcher) 8" collapsible dobsonian.
Almost MINT condition for an excellent, portable, versatile beginner to intermediate telescope.
WHY isn't anyone buying this? It is an absolute STEAL at $250.....
If I had the money (which I don't ) this would be in my house faster than you could blink.....
SOMEBODY buy it before I mortgage one of my kids to snap it up.
It's here http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...d.php?t=102385
If you are wanting to start in Astronomy, do yourself a favour and buy this scope NOW.
(I have no affiliation with the seller or Saxon, just want to see this temptation sold before I do something which may get me divorced....)
Cheers
Chris

Well someone wanted to buy it before it was advertised as (pickup only) and got the cold shoulder.
He even wanted to pay for shipping etc.
Selling/buying articles here is getting harder and harder.
There is no gentleman agreement anymore for some sellers/buyers.
I know this post will be deleted very fast but i find it very un salesman like to change an ad as soon as it gets too hard to send the article.

From general experience I have always found that there is typically two sides to every story and it is a shame that some are so quick to publicly malign others without hearing both sides and version of events.
However, I do agree it is not always easy to buy things - I have had one experience in particular where an IIS member agreed to sell me an EP and then simply reneg - however - I didn't vent my spleen over it but simply notched it up to experience.

Spot on Profiler , I think that this scope will be over OZ posts size and weight limits , so it will have to be couriered , shame that .
Awsome scope for this price tho .

In the original ad it didn't say pickup only.
Then when the price came down all of a sudden it was too much work to pack the scope and get bubble wrap.
The buyer wanted to pay for everything and the seller could have included packaging.
I was not the buyer but the buyer was just venting his frustration after the seller changed his mind and the post was deleted
If we cant even say anything to warn other buyers of some of these transactions then how can we keep safely sell/buy here?
You could have posted a small warning about the reneg here so everyone else would know about it.
It is the only way to keep people honest.
I know this doesn't happen very often? Or we don't hear about it most of the times?

Its a shame it has been withdrawn. I almost snapped it up on principal.
I still might, if PlanetMan wants to sell it to me, I will pick it up easily from where I live.
It would be a great grab and go visual scope for me or my kids while I image with the 8" on the HEQ5
Planet Man? What say you?

Only depends on how accurate and balanced is this supposedly well intentioned 'warning'. As I said before - two sides to every story and two wrongs don't make a right.

I hear what you are saying , its a big job packaging up a scope of this size , even small ones take time if the origonal boxes are lost/destroyed its even harder .
Its very frustrating when someone renegs on a deal 1/2 way thru , its happened to me more than once but thats the nature of this beast I'm afraid , you win some , you loose some . .

I just sold my 102mm NG refractor, which had to be shipped interstate. I still had the original carton, but Pack & Send will pack it for you if you don't have the carton. Easy to do-just book online and pay with card

That all and good Laurie , but it all adds up to the total cost of shipping , that the buyer has to absorb and when Andrews and Bintel at times will ship free on a brand new scope ? you have to weigh it all up .
Good luck Chris , its still a bargain in any terms .
Profiler yes , its a job that has to be done right , or grief will happen ...
Brian.

Cost of freight is fairly reasonable IMHO, Brian. And a used scope including freight cost is still significantly cheaper than buying new, even if new freight is free.

You're right, there are two sides to a story but Mill is essentially correct in his comments and as such, is not maligning anyone.
The item was offered for sale..........the price was subsequently reduced (considerably)..........someone said they'd take it and as was evident in now deleted posts, the offer to buy was accepted...........that offer was later rejected and seller's posts were edited and (at the seller's request) other posts were deleted. Is it a "wise" way to "do business".........probably not, but that is up to the individual seller.
For the record, I contacted the prospective buyer and the seller offering to buy the 'scope and then arrange to have it shipped........the buyer had the courtesy to respond........the seller didn't .

Few comments about shipping so I thought I would share my thoughts. If you wish to move a telescope from one state to another, use Greyhound Bus. They have a door to door service at very good prices and handle all goods by hand. I purchased my LX200GPS from NSW and had it shipped to me in Adelaide for $100. That was the full kit with tripod, and as we all know a very large and heavy item. I now use them for moving large items and recently sold a very large Malibu Surfboard and sent it to Perth to a collector. I have also sent a full outdoor setting via Bus... Greyhound Freight are Great! ... Wow I think I just found them a new slogan
