Virgs and I travelled last night down to Petrel Cove to do some wide field imaging. I was using my new D4 and commenced a new time lapse project. This image is just one of the images taken during the session.
There was lots of ionised oxygen in the atmosphere, also lots of meteors and nice reflections on the beach.
I had hoped for some auroral activity but tonights predictions are better than last night.
Great shot Paul Apparently the aurora went off very early this morning. Starting to see some very nice images from Tas appear in my feed. Hope you got a look.
A new D4 - congrats! Seems like a wonderful camera. Super low light performance.
Did you use the in camera time lapse function? It works really well and the camera is worth it
just for that feature. In fact there are 2 time lapse functions - one that outputs the time lapse
as a .mov file and does not save individual exposures and shoots only in RAW and one called
interval exposure which saves a time lapse but can also do RAW if you want to process it that way.
Thanks guys, I appreciate you taking the time to reply.
H, the D4 does have a nice field of view with the 14mm but I noticed some vignetting too.
Greg, yeah it looks like I just missed out, perhaps I should have stayed longer on the night but I was bushed.
Greg B - no I didnt but I know it is there. I went with what I know is tried and tested. The lens is 14-24 f2.8 at 14mm, exposures were manipulated from 0.77 of a second at 2.8 to 30 seconds at 2.8. All exposure were at ISO 3200. This frame was 30 seconds at 2.8.
I was a little concerned about the noise levels of this camera earlier in the day where I was shooting frames at 12800 in a room that was a little dark but at 3200 there is little if any noise in the night shots. Certainly should be a step up from the D3 I have been using for the last 4 years.
