Hottest Day

It would have to be the hottest day I can recall here on the central coast.
Here at Avoca Beach it is now 45.2C which is 114F on the old scale.
Even too hot to be on the beach???
I've lived here for 52 years and never seen it this bad.
Can anyone recall any hotter?

I certainly haven't experienced a hotter day in Sydney, or probably anywhere...

I was travelling in a taxi this afternoon at about 2.30pm, and the taxi driver and I were amazed as we followed the temps during our journey. Along the Gore Hill expressway, it was measuring 47 degrees. I went on my iPhone Weatherzone app, and we were scrolling through various suburbs around Sydney. At that point, Sydney Airport was in the low 46's. and Sydney Observatory was about 46. At 5pm tonight, as I was driving into the Central Coast, it was still measuring 44 degrees according to my car.

Rick - never in my lifetime can I recall anything remotely like this.

Rod, when we walked out of Castle Towers to the under cover car it was like stepping into a blast furnace. The car exterior thermometer (reasonably accurate) was saying 45.5°C. Driving through the car park it dropped to 45°. Out onto Old Castle Hill Rd and back to 45.5°. Down Showground Rd and up to 46°.
At home it peaked at 48°C at 15:37. It was 40° or more from 10:30 until 18:20. 44° or more from 12:00 to 16:30.
It's now 19:05 and you almost need a jacket. Down to 38.7°.

Hi,

How did you Sydney colleagues cope with the heat? We are after all pampered types and not used to it .

I was ordered to paint the stairwell !! It was 40 deg C at the top, and 32 deg C at the bottom. The paint dried before it left the brush. It was just hopeless.

Exhausted......

Walked home from work as usual (Potts Point to North Sydney, about 6 km), and would have passed Observatory Hill round about 3 pm, when it hit the record. Wasn't too bad I thought. Tuesday last week when it hit "only" 42 was worse imo, because of the wind ... felt like walking in a fan-forced oven . The bridge is normally full of tourists, but yesterday it was more or less deserted.
