Just looking at going down to a meeting or Viewing night sometime just wondering if anyone is a member of a club around brisbane and which would be the best to go to as i see in the "Our Community" section there are a few Clubs to choose from.

In my opinion, you won't go wrong whichever way you go.

For what it's worth I am a member of BAS and they are an active society. BAS and SEQAS share the dark skies of Hazeldean once a month. All good people with a common interest.

I have also been to an open event held by SAS. Another group that is very welcoming. They have a good urban site at Ormeau and also have a great dark sky location. Being on the Southside you may find it easier to get to their meetings and events.

I have not had much to do with the others. Maybe someone else will chime in.

Dale,

For your information the Southern Astronomical Society is holding its first monthly meeting at our new 'home' at the Ormeau Progress Association hall in Mc Creadie Rd. Ormeau on Saturday night 19th. Commencing about 7.30 pm.
You are most welcome to come on down and have a chat.

Any quiries, catch me on 0414839763.

For general info to all others, the SAS no longer will be holding their monthly meetings at Livingston College Ormeau. We have moved across the M1 motorway to Mc Creadie Rd. Ormeau.

Thanking you
Duncan Gillespie
President SAS

All are welcome Dale. The BAS meetings are a place for members to catch up and it serves as a forum for a range of Astronomy related topics to be presented and discussed. It is well within reach for those who are new to Astronomy.

The supper they put on is pretty good as well.

Here is a link to the BAS website if you have not already had a look:

Not sure if you are on the south side but the Redlands Astronomical Society has monthly suburban viewing nights as well as yearly dark site viewing. ...http://www.ras.org.au/

Bas ogm

Hi Dale,

Just so you know the OGM for BAS held this Friday 15th is not at the normal location, instead it will be held at the QUT Health Clinics Building, 44 Musk Avenue in Kelvin Grove (Room U2.43).

This would be a particularly good meeting to come along to as we have Dr Kate Russo coming along to present on her book "Total Addiction: The life of an eclipse chaser" naturally on Solar Eclipses and it should be very informative.

As an aside I find the BAS to be a great club for experienced and beginner alike. Very friendly group.

Cheers

Anthony

Thanks for the details was already aware of the change tho.
I think I met you at the meeting last month outside in the break.
