3 Dob mods completed

Have been modding my Dob the last couple of days thanks to my hubby

MOD 1
Handles on the sides

MOD 2
Homemade Lazy Susan Bearing using marbles and a MDF 3mm sheet spacer to keep the marbles in place. This floats on top of the marbles.

MOD 3
Extremely smooth horizontal movement thanks to this little set up. Its simply a length of copper tube with threaded rod through it. 1 soft rubber caster at the bottom base attached to the threaded rod and a small dolly wheel attached to the top. The spring provides tension to keep traction for the rubber caster against the dob base.
This setup makes hand tracking much easier and smoother especially when viewing the planets.

Nice modifications . I really like your solution for fine azimuth control.

I am now inspired to tweak my scope. Locking casters are required to make it easier to move around.

Hi, Paula.

Very clever idea on the azimuth adjustment!
Combines two of my favourite things, simple - least amount of moving parts and low cost.

Well done.

Justin.

Hi Greg, you turn the wheel on the top and it turns the dob around

That's amazing Paula!

Very nice! I love the tracking mod the most, but the rest is very original!

Cheers,
