I was given the name DistroMan because every computer in the house (there were 7, down to 6 now) had a different distribution of Linux on it.
Before that I was Night Owl (cd radio days) because I worked fulltime nightshift.
Before that was Greyhound because I was a skinny little b*****d in the army and looked quite strange running around with a mortar baseplate strapped to my back. Heavy little buggers.
Like Chris, mine was my CB radio "handle" combined with my age at the time I purchased my first computer. I used to drive around 'Penriff" in a black XB Falcon with BLOODHOUND printed across the windscreen, a six foot totem antenna off the gutter, topped with a real foxtail that I shot. I wore footy shorts and thongs and that was it. Dressing up meant putting on a flanny. To complete the picture I had a glossy sticker on the bumper that read, "Mafia Staff Car."
I was headed waaaayy down the wrong path at the time. Hopefully I am back on the right one by now....
Baz.
Small world Baz,
I too was a local Penriff boy (well sort of, lived in the mountains, but Penrith was the "city" back then) and I am SURE I saw your Falcon around when we were cruisin' around Penny Panthers or High St etc...
Got a few goose bumps when I saw the "mafia staff car" bit because that's what popped into my mind when I was reading the Bloodhound, 6 foot antenna and the fox tail bit...... I think the MSC was a legend around them parts...I remember having a chuckle with my mates when I saw the sticker on the car a few times.

Makes me feel kinda old now...sniff.
Cheers

HA HA HA HA !
Now THAT is scary, I did all of that, with that exact phrasing, so I am thinking I am sure we did the foxhunts with you etc, especially at bottom Maccas. One time some guys (probably you) hid on the ramp to the old Walton's carpark and gave us a clue which made us find you in about 2 mins. Something about the Penrith Press sign which my mate's dad was the manager there so it was cake to find them.
So, YOU were the lonely YL, I hope I didnt pick you up@!! Although you would probably remember me as I am 6 foot 9 tall...had a gold Subaru Leone GLF5 coupe with a DIGITAL dash - what a CHICK MAGNET!

Spooooooky!
Chris
Yep! That was me! Wow, what a memory. Waltons carpark and I even remember that specific sign and clue that night. I was trying to use the concrete walls to bounce the signal in the other direction...too bad about the clue. Must have been somewhere between 1988 and 1992...
The most advanced I got in my car was the PA, the roof consol and the lightning plasma ball sunk into the centre consol. That car was MEEEEANNNN!!!
No, you didn't get tricked by me but there were many an unsuspecting trucky thought he was up with his luck until we dropped our voice tones an octave or ten!
Ahh yeah, sorry for highjacking the thread there David, but man, what a coincidence, and to think, without the thread, Baz and I would have never probably crossed paths in a million years....
Mine is from the Rugby League Club I founded in Ballarat. 'The Ballarat Dragons'.
But it was originally only supposed to be my Password, and my User name was meant to be 'Dragon Man' like it is in all the other forums I am in, but I bungled it all and put the password in the username spot
I know I already posted ( #3) but would like to add it is also my numberplate ( B4RTM4N ).
Erick, did you get your EEEEEEEK nr plate eventually? you could allways use 3333333K.....
Cheers
B4RTM4N
Mine is just my first name and the first letter of my surname.
The posts about CB brought back memories I got my first CB in 1977 as a pirate met my wife when she came to look at the antennas I was building. Member of the Nightowl Club in Mt Isa started the Target club and was a member of the Tassie Tiger club. Upgraded to Amateur licence in 82.
I am involved in Light Sport and Microlight Aviation and produce radio antenna products for light aviation. My product is called BlackWidow TT2000.. I just used the name so I could always remember my login. As I age I need these sorts of memory tags...
Mine is just an abbreviation of my surname. Aka "seven-two" which I got many years ago in rescue... we had two Alan's in the unit, same spelling, same middle name, first 2 characters of the surname the same. I was on a search when my team leader had to leave and handed control to me. He was the communications officer and under the old system, his call sign was 7. 7.1 was the comms vehicle and 7.2 was the deputy comms officer, so I used that. It stuck. Even when I was rescue officer (3) I was still known as 7.2.
I friend of mine was in a big argument with her sister a few years ago. The argument went somethign like: "You're always out doing stuff with all your friends!" "All what friends?" "Al, Sheeny and 7.2..." My friend couldn't keep a straight face, it cracked her up!
Well ever since the movie Karate kid come out I have been renamed Danielsun by everyone I know and everyone I meet. I'm sure other Daniels must get it too!
PS Loved the CB days back in the 80's, had a ball back then!
Reading sci/fi novels holed up in my bedroom from the age of 7 right through to my teens is what got me into all this, & my favorite author was Isaac Asimov. I pinched his name & used it as a tribute to him.
Back in the heady days of my early twenties, my friends named me "Mish-nu", Melbournian goddess of wisdom (ha!). It stuck, but morphed a little over the years to Mishku
