EP rattles
Evening all
One of my eyepieces has a noticeable rattle when I gently shake it.
It's definitely in the lenses somewhere.
I this a problem of any significance?

I'm sure I'm not the first to say that "2 wrongs don't make a right"
I'm sure there are plenty of folk out there who've been sold rattly EPs ...
but does that mean they're OK?

I don't know guys, but last night I had more than a rattle in one of my eyepieces...somehow a mosquito snuck in the back of my 13mm Nag as I was putting it to the diagonal, and so when then took a peek at the moon, boy did I get one hell of a shock!
I'm sure the neighbours heard a loud "F@%$" ...this was at about 11.30pm.

Rattle is not good unless it's just the barrel coming loose, which you can retighten. The optics should be fixed in place and well collimated, with all lenses aligned along the optical axis. A rattling lens will not do much good for the view through the EP. If it's not the barrel that would only need a slight turn, then ask the the dealer you bought it from to replace it.

Also check the threaded lock ring up inside the barrel. Just re-tighten it if it is the slightest bit loose.
The lock ring holds the Lense in place.

FWIW, if you have a loose locking ring, go to a Jewellery store. Ask nicely if you can borrow the 'adjustable tool for removing watch backs'. (Not sure of terminology).
Remove the chrome barrel to gain access to the ring. Just *NIP* it up.
Did this when I had to replace a UHC filter holder. L.

Gee, Ken is such a clever fellow! What an amazing person he is, and so modest too. I don't know where we would be without his knowledge in here. Thanks Ken, I owe you a 2" Nagler for that!
