M42 @ 400mm f5.6 REPRO
Hi all,
Had hoped to add more subs and perhaps some Ha too, but a look at the weather forecast suggests that I won't be imaging for the week
Decided to repro my previous M42 taken with the new 400mm f5.6L lens.
That image was rife with satellite trails which I thought could not be removed.
H pointed me towards Sigma stacking which worked well in removing them.
So, here's a repro - pulled back on the gaudy colour scheme and tried to deal with the noise in the outer parts of the gas/dust too!
High res...

For Craig_L
Re your PM about the stars in the image, here's 100% crops of middle and edges of a randomly selected sub.
Cheers

Those cropped images would take some beating from any lens. Thanks for the views Doug.

Not too bad Lester - Craig_L and I were worried about some astigmatism in the stars, posted the crops to try and work it out. Perhaps a slight 'bulge' to the top right of the brighter stars - ?focus, ?tracking, ?lens mis- aligned with focal plane...who knows? Not too bad though!

Looks pretty good Doug, although I reckon the dust should be that browny colour. Dropping back the red in curves with give that more balanced look.
I really like the field of view though.

Cheers Paul - added a bit more data: grand total of 200mins worth
Smoothed things out considerably and allowed me to push the data a bit more.

Thanks Mike - link to the "final" repro is below. Darks calibration removed some of the pesky hot pixel trails seen in the other images.

Nice image Doug, and the fact that you got it using a DSLR lens, that is amazing in itself!

They ain't Taks, but the performance of some of the L series Canon lenses can be pretty nice.

Thanks Craig - the gamble over buying the 400mm lens
seems to have paid off (so far!)
