Loops of NGC3576
Starting to push the STX system a bit now.
I consider NGC 3576 to be one of the most spectacular nebulae in the SH, but it's not very bright, hence not imaged that often.
The extra QE of the new sensor was quite welcome.
Another couple of hours of H-alpha (if the weather permits) and colour data would be nice...but here is the first hour of H-alpha.

That's a wonderful HA image Peter, reminds of a big piece of fairy floss.
Looking forward to the colour version, that will be something special.

Peter, the field is certain nice. Huge in fact. Detail looks pretty good too. The colour rendition should be interesting. Its on my list to re image this year or next with the TSA. I found that this had a lot of blue in it with the modded 40D and I suspect this would look great with some OIII in the blue. What sub lengths are you running? I was thinking something like 15 to 20 minutes with the QSI to keep the ADU up.
Only thing that really hits me is there is some noise present through out the image. Not a lot but I suspect you already know this and hence the reason for the extra time in Ha planned.

Thanks Alan, Alex, Marc, Paul, Doug, Trev, Ric, Paul Duncan and Dave...whew!
As I mentioned, this is not the brightest of nebulae, hence there is a smidge of noise which another hour or three should iron out.
I found while 10 minute subs were fine, the sheer sensor area collected cosmic ray hits by the dozen, which required a good set of darks to eliminate.

Fair enough. Yes dark subtration means a whole lot more with a larger sensor. Thanks for the info Peter.
