Arrow Jupiter and the NEB outbreak in good seeing - 29/08

Hi all

Another quite nice night on the 29th August, with the WSZ and NEB outbreak on display. The seeing improved as the session went along, however it was cut a little short just after meridian flip when the temperatures dropped suddenly and caused tube currents to distort the image. By the time I'd cooled the mirror again it would've been behind the tree, so it put an end to the session.

There were also a couple of nice pairings of the Galilean moons, with Ganymede and Callisto very close together on the West side of Jupiter, as were Io and Europa on the East side. I've got a few avi's of those conjunctions which I'll get around to processing in the next day or two.

12" newt on EQ6, 5x powermate, DMK21AU04. 30fps for 55-60 seconds each channel. Approx 600-700 frames stacked in each channel.

The images are in reverse chronological order (the last image is from earlier in the night when the seeing wasn't as good).

Thanks for looking.

Mike.

I wish I had the chance to see the moon pairings on Friday night, the guys were talking about it at the pony club and said how cool it looked.

Looking forward to your shots of the event.

A great set of images Mike! I remain deeply impressed by your dedication to capturing and processing these images. It requires great determination, effort and technique to consistently post such first class images – well done!

Cheers

Very nice images Mike, well done.

Still too much wintery weather down here to get much of a go at Jupiter.

wow, that seeing certainly did fine up for you didnt it... The (chronological) first image shows shocking signs of atmospheric interference, but they definitely get a LOT better!

Your images drive me to want to do better!!

Hi Mike,
Very nice work, the two images taken later in the session look great. The quality of the seeing makes such a difference as does the time and effort you put into processing the images.

Regards
Trevor

greats images, Mike.

I do not understand because any image seems moved. Registax can not register the AVI correctly? Although my pictures are never at the same
level as yours, I've never seen that effect, and I have bad seeing too...
