Smile L'arena signing on.

Howdy everyone,

I thought I’d introduce myself. I stumbled across this site today after doing a search on astronomy etc… and what can I say, it’s a great set up you all have here. I have a keen interest in what’s above us; however, I am completely new to astronomy so bear with me whilst I find my feet.

I just bought a book called ‘Universe - Need to Know?’ by Peter Grego so I am getting my noggin around that at the moment. Why take up astronomy now? Well why not..!! The wife has promised me a telescope for x-mas so I’m on my best behavior.

I look forward to reading through the quality posts on here and chatting to you about ‘the topic’ and anything and everything.

Cheers,

L’arena.

Welcome to IIS, I hope you have a great time here.

I think you'll find heaps of interesting subjects here to fire up your interest and if your not sure just ask heaps of questions.

Any ideas yet of what type of scope you are after?

Cheers

Hmmm *L'arena ponders*. Not sure yet, something I definately need to research.

Any suggestions for a first purchase? (Up to $1000.00.)

try and get to a few get togethers and have a look through a few and you will get some idea of what you want and feel comfortable with.

Check out the Projects and Articles section, under Beginner's Guides. Brian Nolan's article on picking a first telescope is good. There are many other such discussions...google it and you'll be overwhelmed with good advice.

Snake Valley AS has a gathering next month for a few days....a fairly close locale for walking around and chatting with owners of various categories of scopes.

G'day L'arena,

welcome.

Your timing couldn't be better. As Scott has just mentioned above, we have the Snake Valley Astronomy Camp coming up in just under 4 weeks time. Not far from Melbourne!

You can come and stay or just visit for the day if time is tight. There will be all sorts of scopes and gear on show. Bintel (Binocular & Telescope Shop Melbourne) is even setting up shop for the camp, so you can see all sorts of stuff.

You are most welcome. It isn't just for IceInSpace members, it is open to all.

Read here if you want to know more: http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ad.php?t=21559
