Strange Hobbies

I ran across this video of a guy starting up a Rolls Royce passenger jet engine in his backyard:

https://youtu.be/TXqW9TXCExI

What a dedicated nutter, he even had an APU for start power, a big steel cradle to hold the engine, and a roll away hanger. Engine instrument panels, etc. I kept asking why?
I am guessing he is a Brit, sheep in the paddock next door running away, and deciduous trees; and they are renown eccentrics.

What are the strangest hobbies you have heard about, not astronomy ok.

I believe you, my grandfather used to put a slice of Apple in his tobacco tins.

Sorry Jeff, I fixed it now, don't know how the wrong link was pasted in there, but it should work now.

Thanks for fixing, could've gone searching I suppose but it does beg the question, why ?
Other than because you can, I don't see the point of the noise and expense unless doing maintenance on something that will be mounted in an aircraft.

I don't think there needs to be any justification. You could ask 'why' of just about any hobby. At the end of the day none of them serve any useful purpose and are only there to keep us entertained.

As cool as it is, I note not much thought seems to have been given to safety. I probably would not have set up right in front of it. I couldn't get a proper look at what's restraining it, but they obviously have a lot of confidence it is 100% fail safe.

Next level leaf blower.
These guys clearly have to be in the biz to even start this thing up. From the comments regarding security they say it's running 10% idle.

Some years ago, when in Katoomba in NSW, I met a gent who collected the heads from department store mannequins. He had them on shelves in his garage, and a handful of them in his house. He was always on the lookout for new ones. That gets about a 9 out of 10 on my strange hobbies meter.

Standing outside at 3am to look at a fuzzy grey blob seems a bit strange

Agree 100%. While this is not my idea of fun, each to their own..

Had the same thought about safety too. The guy getting close with his camcorder had me sitting on the edge of my seat
