Question Call to FSQ owners

Hi guys, I need some help with those Takahashi adapters. There are so many combinations I'm getting a headache. I have to mate a QHY8/9 which are both M42 female.

All I'm after is a male adapter than would thread one end into the existing coupling (behind the wheel) which I believe is a TKP30003 to male M42. From there I can work my way to the camera.

Is there something existing already or do I need to make one? Also am I better off with a 2" Ocular adapter TIA.

Marc,

I used a T-thread to 2" eyepiece adapter with mine until I gave up on the Tak focuser and put an Atlas on it. With the Atlas I picked Astro-Physics 2.7" for the camera side which was much easier to get adapters for.

Cheers,
Rick.

Like this one? So you used the visual adapters before the camera?

I couldn't get to focus with a CA-35. I had the Tak set up with the standard visual adapters for a 2" eyepiece and used one of these: http://www.hotechusa.com/SCA-T-Adapter-p/sca-ta2.htm

I've noticed that all the threads of the Starlight Xpress AO thread direct into the large TAK one at the back. I might get something custom done so I can take advantage of the full aperture. Should be easier to find a guide star with an OAG too.

Something that screws together is definitely the way to go, Marc! I was never very happy with the 2" eyepiece kludge but it was a good way to get started.

Hi Marc

I haven't researched what/any difference between N and ED, but for mine with a QHY9:

F5: 2" Tak ocular adaptor : 2" barlow GSO (lens removed) : 2" nosepiece on M54 thread on the QHY filterwheel : FW : M42 adaptor/window on the 9

F3.7: Reducer: M54 Tak adapter : Precision parts M54 male to M54 male (13mm) to FW : etc

Haven't devoted time to figuring out the extender as yet. After getting a precision parts fitting made so the 3.7 lightpath is all screwed together, I find I'm actually more comfortable with the dodgey F5 hodge-podge usually. I wouldn't like to be doing this with a bigger chip though.

Tak adaptor diagrams sure are scary, and nothing is cheap. If any of above is of interest I don't mind taking a pic for you sometime.
Have you seen this page? Mainly for ED, but pics and diagram links useful. http://www.nigelaball.com/ResourcePa...kadapters.html

Yeah I figured that. The 2" eyepiece kludge is a good generic solution still although I've got buggerall backfocus on the old Q.
