(Another) Failed Aurora Chase

Hi all,

With an X class solar flare predicted to impact Earth, like most southern Aus night scapers I went chasing aurora last Thursday. Left work at 4pm and drove six hours to the Victorian coast at Cape Shank. Arrived just at the end of astro twilight and met up with Alex Cherney. There were so many other people chasing aurora there, but not surprising I guess given the proximity to Melbourne and the popularity of social media. It's a great location but for the next predicted big one (hopefully soon) I think I would head somewhere a bit more off the beaten track.
Whilst waiting in hope (and in vain as it turned out) of an aurora display I spent a while climbing around the cape in the dark and doing a few night scapes.

Beautiful images, The moonlit foreground in the pano is great. Is it the lighthouse lighting up the foreground in the other shot?

I ended up down the other side of the coast that night (airey inlet will have to look thru my pics to see if any are worth posting), there was still a large number of people around but there was a bit more space that it sounds around cape schanck way

Yes it is. The light sweeps around and lights up the cape almost perfectly for a high ISO night shot every twenty seconds or so.
