Hail Storm

With all this storm activity, thought I'd share these pics.

Back in Feb this year we had a massive hail storm hit the Central Coast.

These photos were taken 3 days later !!!
The kids saved some hail in the freezer so I took these as reference. As you can see they already had melted some what but still massive.

Our property was very badly damaged and the repair work is still being caried out today.

The storm hit twice !!
The second time was much stronger.

I remember that storm Andrew, it was quite nasty!

Luckily it missed us (mostly) at Wyoming.

Thats very scary.What is the terminal velocity of a chunk of ice that big?This means the updraft in the thunderstorm was much higher than the terminal velocity of those big bits of ice.As a flyer would hate to even get anywhere near
a storm as violent as that.

They are a lot like the hail stones that nearly destroyed Singleton a few years back.
Very scary stuff

But imagine the lift you'd get in a glider!
That is if turbulence and hail don't destroy you first.

When I lived in Brisbane during the late 80's we had a hail storm there. The hail stones were the size of cricket balls and they had sharp spikes on them like some sort of weird mace. The spikes were 2-3 inches long varying in length. So in effect they were nearly 4 inches wide including spikes. After I saw the first one fall I headed for cover. The damage caused by the storm was estimated at the time to be 1 billion dollars. Glad I did not get hit by that first mace, might not be here now.

Wow, they're big. I've only ever seen marble size ones.
