First attempt at time lapse

After listening to Alex Cherney's talk at Vicsouth, here's my first attempt at time lapse.

I learnt many things on my first night including placing the tripod further away from my telescope so I don’t bump it during the sequence

I originally had taken many more frames but unfortunately I had the camera aimed too high in expectation that the aurora may have rising to dizzy heights.

Thanks for your kind replies everyone.

I’ve actually got a 40sec or 400meg version but Flickr only allows a maxim of 300meg.
So I uploaded it to Utube but the movie turned to B/W and with a twisted picture so not sure what I’m doing wrong on Virtual Dub

Very nice work, Mark! Great colours and how lucky we were to get a reasonable Aurora that only clear night at VicSouth.

Normally I would suggest using a higher frame rate to make it smoother, but the aurora looks very interesting this way.

With regards to virtualdub, you may render to uncompressed AVI and then convert to H.264 MP4 file using Freemake Video Converter ( http://www.freemake.com/free_video_converter/ ) and then upload to youtube.

Cheers,
Alex

Very nice. I'd prefer a higher framerate too but a great timelapse, and how lucky to get an aurora!

Great capture. Too bad about the camera pointing too high for part of it.
Love the Jon and Vangelis soundtrack.

Thanks for your feedback.

I deliberately slowed down the frame rate to stretch it out longer.
Here’s a faster frame rate of my entire capture which equals in time the shorter version on Flickr.
I had trouble uploading with Utube and Flickr only allowed me 300meg so I signed up to Vimeo
