NGC 2070 - the Tarantula Nebula - 4th October 2012

Hi All,

Another test of the cooler box for the DSLR, on a school night too!

For some reason, it was mid summer for half a day, so the ambient was way over 25 degrees, so this was captured at 13 degrees C.

A total of 88 mins of exposure (26 x 3 mins @ ISO 400, 5 x 2mins @ ISO 800). 13 darks used.

I quite like the small cluster at 8 o'clock position too, I think its NGC2100?

Captured with Backyard EOS and processed in Photoshop CS3 and Startools. A bit noisy because the temperature was high and hard to get the colours right but its not a bad start. Hope you like it,

Any tips and comments are welcome.

Cheers

Chris

Thanks Carlos!

Focus was pretty good I think and the extra exposures helped, not to mention some funky drift aligning done with PHD....

I actually set this imaging run up and then trundled inside to watch some Twenty 20 cricket, ended up falling asleep and got woken up by a very cranky better half at 2:30am, complaining that my PC woke her up as the window to the bedroom overlooks where the scope was and PHD was pinging due to low SNR on the guide star. She was not HAPPY JAN! . Its not fun packing the scope up at 3am with bleary eyes....

Good thing was, out of 30 x 3 min shots, only 4 were slightly off so I trashed them, leaving 26 to stack, pretty good for me.

Thanks for the comments, I am glad you liked it.

Cheers

Chris

That's a nice shot Chris; yeah, it was hot the other day / night so would have made it more challenging. I do like the sound of your semi-automatic alarm system to alert you when the imaging run has completed - quite innovative !!

Umm yeah David, unfortunately, I can only activate this alarm a few times before the authorities are called....

Cheers
