SINGLE 20 sec exposure VS 40 subs stacked :)

This is a SINGLE, unstacked 20 sec exposure at ISO 1250 of M 42, using a Vixen VC200L at f/6.3 and a Canon 5DMkII (unmodified).

More clarity and colour than stacking the other 40 subs Hmmmmm...

Might whack it into MaxIm DL and see what happens.

EDIT: second picture is 40 subs of 20" / ISO 1250 stacked, with someprocessing. A bit of a difference! (if only the focus was spot on!)

Shame it's a jpeg... looks MUCH better in PS than the compressed version here

Not a bad effort for a single exposure, yep, more of the same will certainly change the outcome.

Only process I did besides touching contrast a little was to use the Custom filter in CS5 (it's a stock filter). Never tried it before and it did sharpen things up, but also gave some artefacts I don't like. Still, it's OK I guess for one shot!

Working on the stack now - 40 images. End result is mono almost, so goign to have fun getting the colour back some!

Oh yeah, this Vixen blows my mind! I know this is a finicky scope to use (like an RC), but the results will be worth it. Got list of things to sort out yet, and I am NOT moving on past my current 3 targets till they are resolved (M 42, M 8 and NGC 253).

So, guidescope should be finalised next week (been waiting on Orion shipments), then we should crack the trail barrier...

Beyond comparison!

How ugly is my M42 after THIS! Definitely, light pollution is a terrible problem!

Vasya, I think you need to get on the roof of the Ostankino Tower and try... no, knowing Moscow, there will still be enough light pollution to ruin any photo Those who say Las Vegas or Paris are the cities of lights has never been to regular suburban Moscow... LOL

I believe somewhere near Domodedovo might be darker? Or maybe a train trip to Yaroslavl?

When I have my guide scope all settled, I will - I think no lower than ISO 400 though.

I find the 200 iso on the 1000D to be pretty good. The higher iso is just an internal camera gain amplification of the RAW data....
