Driest start to May in Sydney since 1882

If you have been enjoying the long run of fine Sydney weather this month, apparently
it has been the driest start to May since 1882, with not a drop of rain having been
officially recorded.

Last night was, not surprisingly, the coldest of the year.

Meantime, the Bureau of Meteorology reports that climate indicators across the tropical
Pacific Ocean remain neutral (neither El Niño nor La Niña), as is the Indian Ocean
Dipole (IOD).

With Cairns Nov 2012 looming fast, a shift away from the La Niña conditions of the
last two years might help tilt the odds a little bit closer to clear skies on the morning.

Though there were scattered showers across Sydney on Sunday, they missed the
city, thus allowing the record of 1882 to be broken.

As reported today in the Sydney Morning Herald, it is the driest May in Sydney
since records began in 1859.

So incredibly lucky. A bit of consolation for that puke-a-thon that was the Sydney summer this year.
