separate R,G,B colour process JUPITER 7th April

Hi All, bored so split a Jupiter Avi from Friday night for seperate processing of the R,G,B colour channels. This take ages to split in aviraw, resave in virtualdub, process each in Registax 3 (they always run slower) and deconvolution and recombine in Astra Image 2. A couple of hours solid work.

I'd like to say "worth it" but it wasn't. Not much in it compared to the straight process version at far right. At left is ME deconvolution and at right LR deconvolution. Oh well, all good practice. Sometimes this pays off, but quality of the avis just not there this time.

cheers,

Hi Robert. I suspect this part of the process would be best left for when you capture that 'great image' ?

Wonderful colours mate, love 'em! The middle one gets my vote for colour excellence. The left one a very close second. The straight processed one wins overall for detail though.

seeing of at least 7/10 or better i reckon, otherwise your time feels wasted!

As you say though, getting these tools fine tuned is priceless.

Hi Robert

Thanks for posting this useful stuff.

I started a similar RGB split project via K3CCDTools and my early results do not reveal a significant advantage, although it is likely that I have not optimised the overall process and my techniques, so for the moment, I'll sit on the fence until I can do some further testing.

When Mike processed one of my Jupiter avi's he managed to improve the colour and bring out hidden detail at the limb.

Cheers

Dennis
