:D 5 Years Clear

On the 4th of July 2007 I went in for life saving surgery. Today I celebrate 5 years clear of bowel cancer.
It's been a long road travelled since then, with a few more ops to contend with. But here I am now, feeling the best I've been in ages.
I have nothing but praise for our public health system. They have looked after me so well.

Once again I'd like to thank everyone on the forum for your support during that time. I don't think I could have made it without all your positive thoughts and well wishes.

The message I'd like to put out to you all is the fact that Bowel Cancer is highly curable if it's caught early.
If you feel that anything is happening out of the ordinary "down there", please please please go to your GP for a check up. There is no time to put it off. Don't give this insidious disease a chance to take hold.
Here is a list of possible symptoms from Bowel Cancer Australia.

Congratulations jjj, and welcome to the survivors club.
I'm going on 10 years since my first diagnosis, NHL in my case, and yes, if anyone thinks anything is odd down there, up here or anywhere else, get it checked out. The public health system really looked after me also.

I too am only here because I got in very early, and I am extremely grateful to see my girl growing up, I started treatment back on her first birthday and didn't think I'd see her second. I was glad to be wrong on that score!

I don't usually use smileys etc but for both of you it is all I can think of other than it's great to have you both still here.

Great to hear. Well done to you both!

Mum had part of her bowel removed last year, caught early thanks to her GP who sent her off to have her tested after a visit on something totally unrelated.

Mum and Dad are currently driving around the United States in an RV.....not bad for a couple of 70 year olds

Hi jjj

Colon cancer is not to be ignored but there is hope. My grandmother died from the after effects of colon cancer (at 92) and my mum died year before last from the same, most disapointing she was only 14 months from the big 100

Congrats JJJ. I have been hearing and seeing all too much of friends and family battling this terrible disease so it's great to hear some good and positive news.

Hey Warren, sorry to hear. I really hope things go well with your treatment and you get on top of it.
All the best mate.

Cheers Daniel.
