LMC supernova remnants

I’m gearing up to hit the Large Magellanic Cloud a bit later in the year and, among other things, I’ve been researching supernova remnants.
I’m curious to see if anyone has experience of visually tracking these objects down in the LMC, and what kind of aperture it took - or what filters you used. A couple of decades ago I found quite a lot of nebulae and star clusters working off a chart I got from Siding Spring Observatory with an old Meade DS-16 but I don’t recall ever going after supernova remnants.
I’ve seen great shots of SNR 0509, N49 (DEM L 190), N132D and the like - but what about through the eyepiece?
There are 47 confirmed supernova remnants in the LMC and 13 in the SMC ... there’s got to be something there worth tracking down!

Hi Aperturefever.

I've spent a fair whack of time in the LMC with a 16" dob under good dark skies. Virtually all of the objects labelled on my charts at Clouds of Magellan are observable with a scope 12-16" under these conditions and really the bulk of them with scopes 8-10". Only some of the SNRs are labelled as such as the classes of objects I took from the NGC/IC project web site which does not always label them as such and also Mati Morel's presentations of the Henize and Shapley Lindsay catalogues which don't explicitly refer to SNRs. My site has links to these catalogues Alex has kindly put me on to a catalogue of SNRs and putative SNRs which I'll add to my site tonight.

My site also has PDFs of observing notes by Steve Gottlieb, Mark Johnston, Rob Kaufman and myself to give you an idea of what things look like at the ep. I am gradually changing the labels on the charts to links to notes for that particular object and DSS images and some web links related to it.
The notes linked so far are mostly mine, by I am gradually adding others to these.

Hi Alex ... yes, I'm popping up all over the net - think I'm getting a bit obsessed with these clouds. But then, there's not much else to do: as soon as the moon wanes it starts raining again, so best plan for a clear summer night.
Thanks for your input Patrick - I've seen your charts before but had a real close at the links, etc this morning and there's some really good stuff there. Twenty years ago I had some charts gleaned from Siding Springs and they were extremely detailed, but I lost them a long time ago. I'm also wondering how much of them gets covered in Skysafari Pro. Still some more planning to do but I look forward to adding to the wealth of knowledge on the clouds!

I can well understand your obsession, I think I share your illness. Whatever reports, sketches, images or conclusions you come up with I'd love to put them on the site if that suits you.
