Powerful Alignment & Stacking

Hi Guys

A demonstration of the power of the newly released Astroart 5 !

I'd read about improvements over version 4 and thought well, "I'll believe It when I see It" a couple of the things I was really interested in was the better memory and alignment and stacking routines.

Another nice feature added is the ability to reject bad pixels with a specified star elongation or FWHM.

A couple of Sigma(average)or(Add) have been added and in the auto alignment routine the option to choose "Star Pattern"(Translation + Rotation)is extremely powerful.....never seems to fail.


This image of NGC 6723 is a stack of 58 x 10 minute exposures and each color Synthesized sub exposure was a 32 bit 69.9 meg file!

This makes Astroart 5 memory more powerful than any other programed I've used to date...and I've used quite a few.

Totally agree with you re AA5, being a long time user of AA (since 2003) Fabio asked me some time ago what improvements I would like to see and this was one of them and he didn't dissapoint - it really is a better program than AA4...which was already one of the best.

Thanks mate...I am very surprised and excited with AA5's power! of cause I bought It! gee wiz,what other program can you throw in all your work and 5 minutes later It pops out the other end ready for PS!

Ok,so I really wanted to push AA5 to It's limits and see If It would crash! well guess what? I didn't have a big enough data set!

The biggest I had was my Alnitak Region from a couple of years ago shot with the M25c at 90 x 4 minute subs....gee,you'd think this would crash It...nope!

So,90 x 4 minute raw lights went in for,color Synthesis,reduction,alignment and stacking and 5 minutes later without a hiccup out It popped the other end ready for PS! ah,luxury!

Ok,I am left wondering how much data It would take to crash AA5?

I'm dying to find out!

A link to Alnitak Region_90 x 4 minute subs and I've left the stacking artifacts so It's the full frame.

I was a user also of AA4 many many moons ago and went to Maxim as i found Douglas was always updating (for better or worse sometimes).
I did like AA though and was recently wondering when they were going to crank out an AA5.....
Sounds really good must take a peak.

BTW, you're Corona Aus is beautiful mate.
Just right in my opinion.
What camera, what scope etc??

I suppose you mean "subs", not "pixels".

Or............mm, if not, thats complicated, not sure what to make of that.

Rich,thanks dude....shot with the FSQ & M25c combo a couple of years back.

Hey,try the demo mate! everything is available to use but you can't save the results.

I stacked 90 subs on my Alnitak and It handle It without breaking a sweat!

Anyone got more than 90 subs? I wanna see how far AA5 can be pushed?

Hey Fred,yes thanks I meant subs! bad pixels can be dealt with quite well with a bad pixel map in AA.

CCDstack's bad pixel removal is very powerful and that's another reason I wont be throwing It in the closet like I did to Registar.

CCD stack could handle 30 aps size files before running out of memory and Registar could handle 20,AA4 13 files but AA5?don't know yet how many It can handle....I'd like to see how It goes with the bigger files from the bigger chips.
