Solar help

Hello guys,
thinking of moving Ha filter from Coronado 40 to WO Megrez 90.
Better and bigger picture is what I expect - what do you think woulld it be big improvement in quality?
Is there any adapter to do that available?
Many thanks Nev

So, Neven, is it an SM40 that you have to double stack on your solarmax that you plan to use, or are you talking about modding the solarmax?

If its an SM40, you'll need the appropriate blocking filter as well for the Megrez. I expect the only change you'll see is image scale. Unless your solarmax has poor optics, I'd recommend using a barlow/powermate on the solarmax.

There are adapters available on the web, but they are pretty expensive. I think most people find a machine shop to get their own turned up. I got mine done for my ED80 for $50.

Al.

Thanks,
so it is not worth doing it. I thought it is just filter on top and diagonal which you can move onto another telescope.

Neven,
I have a SM60 scope. There's a detachable front filter element which sits on a split adaptor ring...this is a tuning ring where you can tilt the front etalon and tune into Ha.
At the rear of the scope there's a "gold" diagonal. This again is removable and contains both a "mini" energy rejection filter and more importantly the blocking filter which works as a "matched set" with the front element to give safe viewing/ imaging.
So, if the front filter and the rear blocking diagonal are ALWAYS used together you can move the combo to another telescope.
I've done this. The filter set is now mounted on my ED80.
