Rainbow Coast

The town of Albany situated on the south coast of WA 4hrs from Perth is a special place for myself and I try to get there at least once a year for a break. The town and its surrounds offer a lot in regards to recreation, history and natural beauty. You can go to one beach/cove and the fury of the southern ocean will be on display and go to another and you'll find perfect turquoise water for swiming/surfing or casting a line.Anywhy stayed the last week in a great holiday house overlooking Middleton beach and the beautiful natural harbour called King George sound and along the way took alot of pics. The attached pics are some samples of the beaches and attractions ......one of the higlights of the trip was the scenic boat cruise http://www.albanyaustralia.com/Main.html hosted by a great bloke with a indepth knowledge of the areas history and a passion and affinity with the local wildlife

Thanks ....Mike the circular polarizer for the camera came in handy for the water shots , its a great area for photographers heaps of contrasting scenery with ever changing lighting and superb exploring. John had the good fortune to view Comet Hyakutake in 96 from the hilltop that overlooks king George sound , brilliant sight and even at that close promixity to the town the milkyway/LMC and SMC are easily seen

Kearn the structure was built by some eccentric local artist who remains anymounous and provides shelter to bushwalkers hiking the tracks along the kalgan river that flows into Oyster harbour and onto King George sound. Beautiful area with an interesting history in regard to explorers and settlers and of course the local Aboriginal people. The original name of the river was french after Nicolas Baudin came through the area and was later changed by the British who called it the Kalgan after presumably a species of frog of the same Aboriginal name thats found in the upper reaches of the river

Nice images there Stuart, wanted to go and have a look in that area when I was in Perth last October, but never made it. Too much to do. Thanks for posting.

Some sad news today, the wonderful seal featured in the above pics was found dead yesterday morning from suspected knife wounds. Can hardlly believe anyone could be be so callous and cruel . The New Zealand fur seal christened "Sam" by the locals frequented the harbour for eight years and became an unoffical tourist attraction.

That's terrible!

Some people need to find more constructive things to do with their time.
