modded 300d on Scott Alders mount, Eta Carina 300 odd seconds 3/4 moon not processed
Houghy here on Scotts PC
this is a shot taken tonight, with the moon of the eta carina area with a modded 300d camera and UHCS filter on a 10" f5.6newt.
Robby not happy Mate!!!
there is some marks on the lens of the cmos like glue? will take a photo and show you, unless you already know???
Many thanks to scott alder for the use of his photon bucket. SCott of course had to be dragged kicking and screaming to the scope to test this camera. I don't think he will sleep much tonight!!!
Not sure what those marks are. I mucked around with the levels in Robby's original shot's here http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ead.php?t=7308 and couldn't see anything those those shots might have been cropped
Paul, I would say that Robby's shot could have been cropped. Will have to ask the man himself on that score! But it is in an area that nomally suffers from amp noise so maybe that's ok? I would like to say that there will be a huge learning curve for processing.
we also took images of m42, the horsehead, and I am pretty sure that Scott was going to image again this morning to capture the Eta region again but without the moon. I cannot get over how much is captured in these shots.
Scott has ordered the Hutech 350d camera, but it hasn't been delivered yet. So I think he was not so keen to try this one out. I hate seeing grown men dribble, but Scott was like a kid in a lolly shop! So Paul when do you get yours done??
Both images are stunning – well done! The second one in particular, has excellently processed, superb detail along the diagonal line defined by nebulosity running from centre image to bottom right hand corner. Some of the stuff looks like Bok globules.
Thanks all.
Yes modding a DSLR like that sure is the go. My Hutech 350D is apparently in Australia just waiting for Customs to get its rear end into gear and send it on to me.
Some more pics. A shot of the Trapezium of M42, a 20 and 30 sec ISO 200 stacked, NGC 2467, 3 x 5 mins ISO 1600, outskirts of Eta carina neb. the same settings.
all shot with 10 inch F5.6 newt. with UHCS filter and MPCC.
Some more images.
a crop of the eta carina one showing dark clouds and possibly the bok globules.
The Tarantula nebula, 2x5 mins ISO 800 and 1x5min ISO 1600.
Hi Robby, I think what h0ughy was talking about are the distortions/anomolies?? along the right hand edge near the middle. Check out Scott's ngc2467 image, they seem to be clearest in that one.
Yes, we are in discussion about that. This mark was not there on my test shots before I shipped so it is a bit of a puzzle.
Takes pretty nice pictures regardless though. Looks like your having a ball Scott. Some great work! Be interesting to see if the Hutech is any different for 2x the price.
Cheers
Hi Robby
Dave got me to take some pics of the CMOS sensor with my camera, it looks like it might possibly be some sort of gasket material, cant say for sure. It might be fixable.
Scott
Far out... That's quite interesting... Naughty Robby! As I said it wasn't evident in any of my test shots. If it was I would have fixed it. I'm not that stoopid.
Yep definitely fixable. I have offered to fix it.

Your not stoopid, as a matter of fact I think your a genius to have been able to do it in the first place . Any help with processing tips/filters/camera tricks most welcome too Rob!
Thanks for the settlement of the issue and I hope to be able to try and match your shots in the future. many thanks , and for those who read this, Robby is excellent to deal with, answers all questions and is most helpful.
