Astrophotography after full moon.

Hi all

I’m planning a star shoot this coming Easter long weekend, out towards Mungo National Park in outback NSW.

Unfortunately, it’s not the best time of the month to shoot out there, since the moon will be up.
I understand from looking at Planets on the iPad/iPhone and a couple of other software programs on my own phone, that the moon will be rising at around 11pm. This will probably only give me an hour or two of shooting as I know the moon will be rising into the milky way band and she’s awfully bright, even below the horizon.

However, does anyone know how bright? It’s a long way to drive, and would be relatively pointless if the milky way is going to be dominated by our shiny satellite. Anyone got any pictures taken at this point in the lunar cycle they care to share so I have an idea of what to expect?

I’ll try and post up some screenshots tonight to show what I mean.

Hi Adam

I think you're right - you'll get a few hours of darkness but once the moon rises, it'll get increasingly difficult.

If you're shooting in the West when the moon rises in the East, you may get a little longer.
