so this is not exactly cameras and imaging equipment, but where else am i gonna put this?
http://philhart.com/workshops
i'm also a little reluctant to pitch these workshops at IIS folks since this community exists to share knowledge amongst each other, but secrecy never was much of a marketing strategy

. so if you have a friend who admires your astro shots and wants to take photos of the sky themselves, and you don't know where to start when they ask why the stars in their images look fuzzy.. then maybe it might be right for them!
the workshops are not about the gory details of deep sky astrophotography through a scope, and certainly not about CCD imaging. but they are for photographers who want to learn more about astronomy and the night sky and how to photograph it with just a tripod and a digital SLR. we do cover equatorial mounts for 'track and stack' photography with telephoto lenses and also provide the opportunity for folks to attach their camera to my scope on the weekend course (weather permitting). and can lend people some nice gear for the workshops if they don't have their own SLR/lenses etc.
there is one other aspect that may be of benefit to IIS members.. because this course is run through Michaels Camera Store in Melbourne, they are able to offer hugely discounted educational pricing on full versions of Adobe software (Photoshop & Lightroom). If you were looking at buying Photoshop, then a workshop would more than pay for itself in the savings!
will also provide a discount on the workshops to anybody here or donate 10% of the workshop fee to IIS for any referrals that come this way.
thanks for looking..
Phil
