laptop for photo software

Just hoping to do some photography with my dob. I will be using a to-you-can (900) So what kind of laptop do I need? Like do I need ddr3 or is ddr 2 ok duel core or better and or anything im over looking.

If it's for Graphics processing the gruntier the better. Full of RAM, best processor. They can, within reason, all do it but the more capability it has the quicker and better it will be.

It comes down to what you are prepared to spend. Around $1600-1800?

Something like a Toshiba Qosmio F60/05M or F60/05E ?
The only difference is the disk - 640GB vs 750GB. Both quad core, 6GB RAM, NVidia graphics.

i have and old Acer Travellmate 220 laptop, Celeron 1.06Ghz, 128mb SDRam, running XP Pro, seems to handle the Toucam and K3CCD Tools quite well, also being older it has a parallel port for long exposure mode without the need for yet another adapter... while imaging i disable the internet, antivirus etc...
this frees up my newer laptop for running starry night, processing, gOOgling etc. without interfering with my imaging...

I like this because its only running the photo software and no other programs will be needed. With a dob im told one can only take short exposures anyways

exactly... toucam's max resolution is 640x480 @ 1.3mp which is hardly cutting edge nor does it require large amounts of pc power to capture the data... it basically comes down to what you need for the job...

processing the data on the other-hand is much faster on higher end pc...

could I take the capture off the laptop and transfer it to the home pc and do the resolving there?

I can capture on a notebook, so there is no reason why you could not do the same. If you wanted to do something that involves image processing on the same system, you need more grunt.

Capturing is the easy part, it is the processing that plays an important factor. I have 3 laptops, Dual Core (which I have given to my son) and a new 8 core i7. Also a Netbook.

The netbook I use for capture only, the i7 for processing. The speed difference between my old Laptop and my i7 is noticeably faster.

But my only issue at the moment is the i7 get very hot.

Im thinking the same way. I have a decktop I5 750 at home and I'll capture with a laptop.
