i think there was a mention of this work done by a man in the US (were else of course) in a recent US astronomy mag i remember reading a few months ago
a man who combined his love of astronomy with his day job of artist / carpenter

I can appreciate the time & love put into it - I'd still rather have something that looks like a total piece of crap pulled out from the tip, with superb optics in it.

Not an expert, but i would guess with our climate and potential high humidities a wooden scope could suffer terrible Collimation issues

Ah, no, I dont think so.
I would be embarassed to go anywhere near it, not a pretty sight to me.
