Messier hunt

theres a large number of Messier catalog objects in the sky in the early evening at the moment , good opportunity to tag a few and itch on the side of the scope as mission accomplished

http://nineplanets.org/dssm/messier.html .... although not the same as through the eyepiece this gives some indication of what to expect

Its great fun I think I have done about 50 so far, lots of Open & globular star clusters.
Its surprizing how many you can find in a night with a Dob, Star Chart ( from Cartes Du Ceil) & a telrad.

At this time of the year we get the opportunity to see our most northly Messier galaxies M81 & M82, Bode's & the Cigar Galaxies.
I will be looking to add them to my list this year.
Might be a good time of year to finally have that Messier marathon
