LPI and Windows 7

What software do I need to run and process a Meade LPI under Windows 7 64 Bit Home Premium edition?

I have tried Meade Envisage but the program is crashing as soon as I start it.

Thanks Brendan

Hi

If you only have windows 7 particularly 64 bit you will need to install a virtual XP version to control the LPI as Meade have not got drivers for Windows 7 yet as far as I know.

I have the latest VMware virtual which is excellent but you can get the free version from Microsoft and their virtual XP version.

This really gets my goat why can't Meade put out drivers for this great piece of hardware. I have done a duel boot with XP and Win 7 and the only thing I need XP for is the LPI. I wish I was a programing wizard so I could write 64bit drivers for Win7 for the LPI. And because I only have the Home Premium version of Win7 it doesn't include the XP Mode which really sucks lemons.

I just had a thought and yes it did hurt. We have some very smart cookies on this site so I put out the challenge for someone to write drivers for the LPI for Win7 32 and 64bit.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

Hi

I haven't tried Meade's solution but it looks OK.
However I will comment on the Microsoft XP mode.
I have Windows 7 64 bit ultimate and was able to install the XP mode so I did not know it only worked on the proffesional versions.

In any case I found it very mediocre in performance particularly in screen accelerators. It was a mammoth download two 300MB + programs.

Instead I used the VMware virtual program (there is a free version) and installed XP SP3 from my original XP disk. This gave me a far superior virtual version of XP. I also made a virtual Linux and Windows 98.

However the best solution was to install XP first and then Windows 7 in advanced mode and dual boot.

If you don't have the windows 7 disc then there is a trick I use to transfer the original windows 7 to a new disc that has XP installed.

Firstly backup an image of your original OS onto another disk then format the HDD with at least two partitions. Install XP. Next get a Windows 7 disk (borrow it) and start the install program in advanced mode. You may not get very far without the key but it will give the basic start up and BCD boot sector.

Make sure your XP version has the program to restore your image then run this to re install the original Windows 7 image into the newly created partition. I don't know if this works universally but it did for me.

If this does not work another way is to use two HDD and then get "easyBCD" and edit the BCD to add your XP disk as a new system. The problem of dual booting occurs only if Windows 7 is your primary OS

I found the solution I mentioned earlier works only with 32bit as the Trust Webcam doesn't have a 64bit version drivers and I recommend installing the meade software first because if you do it after you get the LPI working the meade software stuffs up all you did to get it working so you have to redo the solution.
