thoughts on a cloudy night

Last night was a far too infrequent clear night. The Great Rift was rifting and the Milky way was so pronounced it looked like a cloudy night.

Naturally this raises two ponderings tonight.

(1) anyone have any idea how many stars it takes to create the spilt milk effect?

(2) as I approach completion of the H-400 and I consider what next I think about the 1847 W. H. observations from South Africa and think that they just might be the last list I attempt. ( I am close to 60 )
