Please Help With Sound Driver

Hi Guys, well as most of you know i have had some real problems with my computers of late, and still the saga continues, so the Desk Top is in surgery as we speak, and is getting a major upgrade in the process.

Well that is good, but very expensive, but what do you do.

Now the next problems is the Lappy, and it too is a pain as it has lost the sound driver and is totally mute at the moment.

Could one of you nice people please send me a link or something so that i could once again hear a squeak out of my little mate

I have tried, but nothing seems to work.

Thank You Leon

A potential "Doh" moment. You haven't muted the sound from the control panel etc.? You haven't got an external speaker plugged in and turned down or off?

What was the laptop?

Have you tried going into "My Computer" -> "Manage" -> "Device Manager" -> "Sound, video and game controllers", deleting the hardware devices (not the codecs), then "Action" -> "Scan for hardware changes".

Or whatever a misguided M$ has renamed all those things to in Vista or Win7.

Have you tried to do a system restore to a time when the sound was working Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore. Or trying Microsoft Update as a last resort sometimes this turns out to be the thing that caused the problem in the first place

Leon,
Does the sound work when you insert a cd and play?
I had a similar fault and it was limited to Flash based content.
Check out the following link for a remedy if this is your error.
