EQ6 Polar Scope alignment - Help Please

Took my new EQ6 outside for the first time tonight (clouds for the past 2 week since I got the Mount).

Leveled it all out did the setup etc and then went hunting for Octans. Found it, and was able to find the asterism that I am meant to align in the polar scope. ......This is where I ran into trouble.

When you look at the asterism it has the same layout as the pattern in the polar scope. The problem is when you go to align them the polar scope flips the image and so now they wont line up.

I know you are meant to move the mount head etc to align the asterism and the pattern in the polar scope, but it seems if I did that I would end up with the counter weight shaft sticking up into the air.

What am I doing wrong.

Any help appreciated

Matt

I dont use the polar scope (thought it was northern hemisphere only) I just roughly align to South then send it to a known star then track in with the directional buttons. Repeat for two or three star alignment.
