any suggestions for a free webhost ?

I recently spent put in a bit of effort to create a website for my ETX 70 astro images with Freewebs last weekend ...over the last one week the site got over 500 hits and now I find the site is frozen as I have used more than the bandwidth I am supposed to have used...

needless to say when I signed up for a so called "free" account I never saw any fine print that suggested there would be such limits..now they want me to join up for a a "premium account" in order to keep the website going

thanks, but i'd rather go somewhere else..anyone got any suggestions??? my own ISP gives me too little so I need to go to someone else..many many years ago I used geocities for a website, but the html editor in those days was clunky...so I havent been back.

I must also warn anyone else thinking of using Freewebs not to bother--they restrict the number of pages you can have, restrict the number of images you can upload and I havent found out what else they will do...and they freeze your account suddenly saying you have exceeded your bandwidth limit.

I'm sure its all in the fine print but i'd recommend anyone looking for free webhosting ... dont waste your time going to this mob,

How much disk space do you need, and how much bandwidth do you anticipate that you need?

Ditto to the other offers, I can host your website on my server.
You can either have your own domain name if you take care of the registration fees.
Or I can host you in a sub directory of my domain... eg http://www.star-mate.com/seekers_awesome_website
I can also host any e-mail addresses you wish with your domain...
So long as the bandwidth was low there would be no charge...
Let me know.
Cheers

PS. I would consider low bandwidth as below 500M/month.
Cheers

thanks for the responses folks. I had to go and find out the answers

The website was constructed with the host's editor and occupied 3 MB.(I just built it on line and have no mirror on my PC)

I get 500MB of bandwidth a month-and some 20MB of disk space- but in the first week after I launched the website I -somehow-dont ask me how-seemed to have consumed 1500 MB of bandwidth-in less than one week actually

I really didnt expect to have that many hits and probably it wont continue ..cant see any reason why there would be continue to be that many visits

anyway I have emailed support at freewebs because I thought that till I reached my bandwith limit there would be no ads but after that if I enabled ads, access would continue to be permitted..I had ticked that option but somehow it doesnt seem to be working..maybe there is some fine print somewhere that I havent seen..waiting for an email from them

I have had similar experiences with geocities... if you haven't changed your site within x months (can't remember exactly how long) they declare the site dead regardless of how many hits the site may still be getting and they simply wipe it... gone!

I have just opened free account at www.00homepage.com which ends up being topcities... time will tell how they perform...

PS. www.00homepage.com offers 150M free, direct FTP upload (though so far I have succeeded in getting this going). I'm sure there are some sort of restrictions on bandwidth, but I haven't been too concerned yet. They do have a file upload assistant which is pretty painless to use so that's why I haven't pushed the FTP too hard...

imo dont mess around - pay for it! it doesnt cost that much really - around $120 au a year you can have 4 gb of webspace and 100gb transfer/mth !!!!! with TONS of goodies :-) Myself and some friends have accounts with these guys - so far, they are awesome - mirror servers the works. its in the U.S. - but that makes no diff on the net of course - service is excellent - its so good its scary - redirect included in cost - i could go on - you could host at least 20 decent sized sites. maybe you could pool monies?
i havent finished moving the southern-x site properly to our bluehost account quite yet - soon - I am very lazy sometimes -
http://www.bluehost.com/
ps for domain names i recommend planetdomain http://www.planetdomain.com/ very cheap get that there first rather than go thru bluehost for domains - they will try to sell you their service
