[ANN] Frame Extractor

Hello good people,

I use a Mac laptop to acquire astro images via a GSTAR-EX and a Canopus ADVC55 firewire frame grabber. I use iMovie HD as the recorder, as it allows time lapse recording suitable for the GSTAR's 128x accumulator.

Unfortunately Nebulosity 2 does not read .mov files which are what iMovie outputs commonly. And Keith's Image Stacker insists on reading my .mov files as being 720 px wide rather than 784 px wide.

I wanted those extra pixels so I wrote an application to decompose iMovie .mov files into individual frames (either colour PNGs or greyscale TIFFs).

I have found it useful so offer it here to the astro imaging fraternity as freeware. No warranty.

You may download the 3.7MB application from

Frame extractor is at the bottom of the page.

Tested on a MacBook Pro 2.4GHz running OS X.5.8 Compiled as a Universal Binary so it should run on PPC too (but I don't have PPC to test on).

Regards,
Tony Barry
