Smile Celestron service from Extravision

Just a few of days before the warranty expired my ASGT mount started running away in both RA and Dec.

I took it back to Andrews, Luke sent it off to Extravision (it was supplied by them and they still have better service than the new importers), and a week later it was back with a new motor board.

First test run was last night. I had asked them to see if they could do something about the backlash. Compared to what it was like before, there is very little. They might have gone a bit too far as it seems a bit louder when slewing, but it tracks much better.

I did a quick 2 star align, then used the polar align function. PHD calibrated about 3 times faster than before, and kept both the RA and Dec excursions under control. A shame that by then the dew had totally obscured the C8. Shouldn't have forgotten the dew shield.

It's better than when it left the factory.
